Taut is the alias of Berlin based electronic musician Jacob Bergson. As a longtime collaborator with several internationally renowned artists, most notably legendary New Zealand singer Kimbra and Swiss drummer Jojo Mayer, he has performed in nearly 50 countries worldwide.

Since the release of his debut singles as a solo artist in late 2020, Taut has been a prolific creator of music, releasing a full-length album, three EPs, and several remixes. A number of these releases received radio play on BBC Radio 6 and SRF Swiss Radio, and were also included in Spotify editorial playlists. 

Seeking to push the limits of his own musical imagination, the creation of Taut’s upcoming work builds on the unusual processes he first employed on his prior EP. Generations of discarded sketches were reabsorbed, decontextualized and brutalized, resulting in irreversible decisions, forced choices, and ever-compounding layers of complexity. The result is music which feels emergent rather than crafted, as if bubbling up spontaneously from the subconscious of the listener, with the actions of the creator himself nearly entirely obfuscated. 

Originally focused exclusively on instrumental music, Taut has grown increasingly eager to include the human voice as a prominent texture in his work. Nearly every one of his upcoming singles employs the human voice in some fashion, although it always appears somehow mangled or distorted. These sonic alterations serve a specific artistic purpose - Taut conceives of these voices as akin to thoughts, rather than vocals sung aloud; internal voices rather than external ones, originating from within the listener rather than received from the outside. 

Inspired by a diverse set of electronic innovators like Siriusmo, DJ Rashad, Floating Points and Burial, Taut’s music defies easy category. It eschews the strict genre orthodoxies of much modern electronic music, opting instead for a stream-of-consciousness approach which flouts stylistic boundaries. 

Taut’s newest single is set to release on July 19, 2024, with additional releases to follow throughout 2024 and 2025.
